Project Description
My research centered in moral psychology covers a range of projects and various skills to develop! Moral Narrative Retellings This is going to be your standard kind of ingroup/outgroup research. Preliminary baseline data has been collected, so next will be analyzing the data and creating our follow-up study. Moral Measure This is the project I am most passionate about. I would like to develop a descriptive measure of morality that can be used in character and ethics education programming to highlight viewpoint diversity and encourage civil discourse. The measure comes in two parts: a self report and a behavioral task. Developing the self report will have to do with creating moral situations across anthropological, biological, philosophical, and religious perspectives. We will be doing validity and reliability research with this. The behavioral task will be similar in that it uses moral dilemmas, but in a narrative structure so participants feel they are navigating more authentic moral situations. Tik Tok/Instagram @jillianleemorality A more creative research opportunity! You will do some literature review work to familiarize yourself with psychological and moral concepts, and then translate these concepts into something that wider audiences will enjoy. Science communication is a passion of mine and something I hope can be a meaningful way to teach moral psychology.
Technology or Computational Component
We will be doing data analysis with programs like SPSS and creating a behavioral task, practicing coding languages like javascript and matlab. The RA(s) will be affiliated with the Experimental Humanities lab in cognitive science.
