Project Description
Tropes are common storytelling conventions that are used over and over again across stories, tv shows, and films. For instance, "Avengers: Endgame" would be an example of tropes such as "Badass Army"; "Chekhov's Gun" trope is frequently used for foreshadowing. Tvtropes is a crowd-driven website that documents numerous tropes appearing in various cultural products. The aim of this project is to create an exploratory visualization tool for navigating the space of tropes. An alternative aim is to study historical gender bias in tropes appearing in movies over time.
Technology or Computational Component
The visualization/analysis would employ programming and handling data.
