Faculty and Student Outreach Coordinator
Laura Centeno-Diaz, faculty and student outreach coordinator for UITS Learning Technologies at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, shaped her love for technology to support the teaching and learning of students, staff, and faculty campus-wide. Her work focuses on exploring innovative technology that will enrich the classroom experience.
“I love that what I do may impact the discovery, selection, and implementation of tools and technologies that best support the university’s pursuit of academic excellence,” stated Centeno-Diaz.
Even as an undergraduate, Centeno-Diaz explored learning technologies while participating in a pilot program to acclimate teachers to embrace technology in their curriculum. After obtaining a master’s degree in instruction technology from Iowa State University, Centeno-Diaz managed an outreach and retention program for gender and ethnic minority engineering students. Seeking an opportunity to return to her educational technology roots, Centeno-Diaz joined the UITS faculty in spring 2013.
“I enjoy the ever-changing aspect of technology, as it gives me the opportunity to learn something new every day,” stated Centeno-Diaz.
To evaluate tools and technologies to support the university, Centeno-Diaz is competent in instructional design, project management, instructional technology consulting, graphic design, and technical writing.
As technology continues to evolve, Centeno-Diaz advises individuals interested in the technical domain to constantly upgrade their skills to keep up with the changing technology.
“Don’t be afraid to make mistakes and use them as learning experiences to continue growing professionally and personally,” advised Centeno-Diaz.
Beyond her passion for technology, Centeno-Diaz enjoys salsa dancing, home improvement projects, and traveling to Puerto Rico to visit her family.
