CEWiT Launches Mentor Collective
Friday, July 7, 2017
CEWiT has joined forces with the Mentor Collective to offer a virtual mentor program for CEWiT student affiliates during the 2017-18 academic year. Two unique programs will be available, both matching female students with trained IU alumnae mentors based on professional aspirations, common interests, and background. Mentors and mentees meet virtually at least once per month to share, discuss, and connect.
Alumnae mentors will have the opportunity to share their knowledge, experience, and expertise with and to provide feedback to current IU students. IU student mentees will gain professional insight, career guidance, and personal development from an IU alumna expert.
After a pilot of an e-mentor program last semester, participants expressed appreciation at the opportunity to share experience and professional knowledge:
"(I enjoyed) being able to connect with a driven young woman and have the opportunity to serve as a resource and sounding board for her." ~ a former mentor
"My mentor was extremely well prepared for all of our communications. She offered practical advice and followed up to see how my interviews were going. I loved how supportive she was." ~ a former mentee
“My mentor was very easy to talk to and I think I will continue to talk to her even after this semester.” ~ a former mentee
“I really enjoyed talking to her about how to approach her summer internship and how to think about taking advantages of broadening her leadership skills as well as her technical skills. It was something she had thought about, but didn’t know how to approach”. ~ a former mentor
CEWiT is currently recruiting current IU women students and alumnae to participate in the program. To learn more and to sign up, visit the following sections of the CEWiT website:
