High School-aged women in the state of Indiana are encouraged to apply for the Indiana Award for Aspirations in Computing. This award, sponsored and administrated by the IU Center of Excellence for Women in Technology (CEWiT), honors young women at the high-school level for their computing-related aspirations and interests.
Awardees are selected for their leadership ability, academic history, plans for post-secondary education, and computing and IT aspirations. Applicants do not necessarily have to be highly-adept with computing and IT, but they should wish to become so.
The Indiana Award is offered in conjunction with a national award that is sponsored by the National Center for Women & IT (NCWIT). Students interested should complete the NCWIT application online, which will automatically make them eligible for both the national and regional Aspirations in Computing Awards. Twenty women will be chosen as recipients of the Indiana award and will receive $250 cash, scholarships to Indiana colleges (including Indiana University) and a goody-bag filled with swag from various Indiana tech companies.
Applications will be accepted from September 15 – November 2. All winners will receive their awards at a ceremony in downtown Indianapolis at the end of January. (Check out this video from last year’s award ceremony!)
The Indiana Award for Aspirations in Computing is also sponsored by ChalkLabs, DePauw University, Harrison College, IUPUI, Notre Dame, Purdue University, One America, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, SIM Indianapolis Chapter, and Women & Hi Tech.
