Kim Baker, Graduate Assistant

Kim Baker is a second year graduate student pursuing a Master of Library Science with a Specialization in Children’s and Young Adult Services. Before attending IU, she taught first-year college composition at the University of Louisville (Kentucky) and Parkland College (Champaign, IL) where she also taught developmental reading and English as a Second Language. In addition, she taught English in China where she lived with her family for three years. Kim holds a BFA with a specialization in drawing, a BA in English and a Master’s in English (Rhetoric and Composition) from the University of Louisville. In her free time, Kim enjoys camping, reading, baking, sewing and other crafts, and spending time with her family.

Yin-Chan (Janet) Liao, Graduate Assistant

Yin-Chan (Janet) Liao is from Taiwan and currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Instructional Systems Technology in the School of Education and holds a M.S. Ed. in Learning Sciences and Technologies from the University of Pennsylvania. Her research interest areas focus on pre-service and in-service teacher professional development for technology integration. Recent years, she has worked with teachers to support their technology integration in classrooms in local elementary schools. She is also an Adjunct Instructor for Computers in Education course in the School of Education.


Qiwen Zhu, Database Developer

Qiwen Zhu is pursuing his Master of Information Science with a concentration on Data Science in School of Computing and Informatics. He has specialized in Database management systems and their applications. Qiwen spent 8 years working as a system administrator in a goverment agency of radio spectrum management in China, managing a team of database maintenance and office network administration. He received his first degree in Information System and Management from Lanzhou University of Finance and Economics.

Sarah Hunker, Social Media Intern

Sarah Hunker is a senior pursuing a B.A. in Media Advertising with specialization in Public Relations. Sarah enjoys writing and spending her time involved in other campus organizations. She is a Media School ambassador along with being on the Communications and Marketing Team for IU Luminaries. On the side she also writes for other media outlets, one called Her Track, where she is a Sponsorships and Advertising Team Lead. In her free time she loves to keep up with current events in the media and take long walks on IU’s beautiful campus.

Avrie Allen, Graphic Design Intern

Avrie Allen is a sophomore at Indiana University, pursuing a B.A. in American Studies and Fine Arts: Graphic Design. Avrie enjoys books, art, design, and coffee. She is involved in various community organizing groups and projects. In her free time, Avrie enjoys reading, running, being outdoors, and spending time with friends.

Ellen Glover, Content Writer

Ellen Glover is a senior studying journalism and music. Along with reporting for CEWiT, she also writes for the Media School website and hosts a weekly radio show on WIUX. After graduation Ellen hopes to write for a magazine or report for NPR. When she has free time, she likes to read, write, listen to music or binge-watch Bob’s Burgers. Ellen is so excited to be working for CEWiT and looks forward to getting to know this amazing community of women.

Emily Wattimena, Web Maintenance Assistant

Emily Wattimena is a on her third year of college, pursuing a B.S. in Informatics with minors in Psychology and Human-centered Computing. She is interested in the psychological implications within technology and hope to pursue a career in HCI/D post graduation. Emily also work as an Ambassador at CEWiT as she enjoys sharing with others opportunities available at IU, especially from CEWiT. During her free time Emily enjoys listening to podcasts and hanging out with friends.

Sabren Abdulwahab, Office Assistant

Sabren Abdulwahab is a junior in the School of Informatics and Computing, pursuing a B.S. in Informatics. She is also a participant in the Arabic flagship program and majoring in Arabic. Sabren works as an office assistant at CEWIT, and hopes to contribute an environment of empowering women in STEM fields. In her free time, Sabren enjoys watching movies and Youtube videos that range from travel vlogs to makeup tutorials, as well as, spending time with her loved ones. While focused on her education, Sabren is an active student in a couple of student organizations on campus such as the African Student Association and the Muslim Student Association.

Erin Powell is a senior pursuing a B.A. in Media Advertising with minors in Spanish and Public Relations. Erin works as CEWiT’s photographer and loves to capture pictures of people learning more about technology and finding their niche in the STEM world. Most importantly, Erin loves to empower women who do not think they have a place in the tech industry. During her free time, she likes to travel and volunteer around the IU community.
