Image of Maureen Biggers, Director


Dr. Maureen Biggers is an IU champion Pacesetter for the National Center for Women in Information Technology (NCWIT), a former co-chair and current advisory board member for the NCWIT Academic Alliance, on the Microsoft Research Connections Education and Scholarly Communications Advisory Board, and served for 5 years as program manager for the NSF Alliance for the Advancement of African-American Researchers in Computing. Her research interest areas relate to curricular and co-curricular educational practices leading to improved retention of women and other underrepresented students in the field of computing technology, and she has presented at numerous national conferences and meetings. Dr. Biggers can be contacted at biggersm-at-indiana-dot-edu.

image of Jenny Hertel, Program Manager

Associate Director of Operations

Jenny Hertel was CEWiT's first full-time employee, and holds a B.A. in Journalism from Franklin College and a M.S in Human-Computer Interaction design from IU's School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering.  Before she began working for CEWiT in 2013, Hertel was employed by IU's University Information Technology Services (UITS) for eight years. Her 22-year career in IT also includes technical support positions with IBM Global, Zurich Financial Services, Lincoln Financial, and Prevent Child Abuse Indiana. She is a NCWiT Academic Alliance Member Representative for Indiana University, and she is the Selection Committee Chair for the Indiana Regional Award for Aspirations in Computing. Jenny enjoys attending live music concerts and festivals, reading, and is crazy about sloths.


Michelle Bartley-TaylorAssistant Director for Student Engagement

Michelle Bartley-Taylor holds a B.S. in business from the University of Vermont and a Master’s in Higher Education Administration from Colorado State University. Her background in student affairs includes working as an Area Coordinator for Residence Life and as a Program Coordinator at the Center for Mathematics, Science, and Computer Education both at Rutgers University. In the latter position, she was responsible for National Science Foundation Young Scholars Program geared to underrepresented populations. Michelle has also worked in K-12 Education in Michigan and prior to joining CEWiT, Michelle was working in at The Wellbridge Group in Michigan.


Jennifer TurrentineAssistant Director for Cross-Alliance Initiatives

Jennifer Turrentine is pursuing her Master of Science in Business Analytics at the Kelley School of Business and holds a B.S. in political science and criminal justice from the University of Central Missouri. Prior to joining CEWiT, Jennifer worked at IU’s Center of Evaluation and Education Policy (CEEP) with the Equity Project and was previously an Associate Instructor for IU’s criminal justice department. Before this, she was the coordinator of an interpersonal violence crisis center. In her free time, Jennifer enjoys hiking, kayaking, and being outside with her wife and dogs.

Steph Jimenez, Senior Office Services Assistant

Steph graduated from IU Bloomington with a B.S. in Public Affairs and Nonprofit Management. Steph also serves as a volunteer Family Coach with Safe Families for Children and previously was the Marketing Coordinator at a local nonprofit. She is eager to be part of the movement that empowers women to succeed in the technology field.
