, Executive Director

Dr. Maureen Biggers, co-founder and director, has been active in broadening participation in computing initiatives for more than 15 years. While serving as Assistant Dean for Diversity in Computing at Georgia Tech and Indiana University, and as a champion in the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) Pacesetter program, she led successful efforts to significantly increase the number of women studying computing. Maureen has served as co-chair and is a current Advisory Board member for the NCWIT Academic Alliance, currently serves as co-chair of the Indiana ECEP team and is co-PI on the national Leadership Team for the ECEP 2.0 Alliance.

Michelle Bartley-Taylor, Senior Associate Director

Michelle Bartley-Taylor joined CEW&T in early 2016. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Vermont and a Master’s in Higher Education Administration from Colorado State University. Her background in student affairs includes working as an Area Coordinator for Residence Life and as a Program Coordinator at the Center for Mathematics, Science, and Computer Education both at Rutgers University. In the latter position, she was responsible for National Science Foundation Young Scholars Program geared to underrepresented populations. Michelle has also worked in K-12 Education in Michigan and prior to joining CEW&T, Michelle was working for The Wellbridge Group in Brighton, Michigan. In her time outside of the office, Michelle enjoys being with her family, gardening, reading, and exploring the outdoors with her border collie, Maggie.

Jenny HertelAssociate Director of Operations & Communications

Jenny Hertel was CEW&T's first full-time employee. She holds a B.A. in Journalism from Franklin College and a M.S in Human-Computer Interaction Design from IU's School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering.  Before she began working for CEW&T in 2013, Jenny was a Usability Specialist with IU's University Information Technology Services (UITS). Her 23-year career in IT also includes technical support positions with UITS, IBM Global, Zurich Financial Services, Lincoln Financial, and Prevent Child Abuse Indiana. She is a NCWiT Academic Alliance Member Representative for Indiana University, and she is the Selection Committee Chair for the Indiana Regional Award for Aspirations in Computing. In her free time, Jenny enjoys attending music festivals, reading, and is crazy about sloths.

Program Coordinator

JesAlana joined CEW&T in 2019 and holds a doctorate in Literacy, Culture, and Language Education. She is a professional dedicated to multilingual collaboration, fostering enthusiasm through diversity, and facilitating communication internationally. Prior to her position at CEW&T, JesAlana taught English composition to international students, Spanish to native English-speaking students, and tutored French, while also studying Mandarin (Chinese), Italian, and Portuguese. Due to these experiences, she feels a deep responsibility to empowering people through global educational opportunities that focus on equity and inclusion and are interdisciplinary in nature. Outside of IU, JesAlana enjoys spending time with her family and her dogs, visiting the zoo and the beach, and going kayaking.

Brandi WykoffAdministrative Assistant

Brandi Wykoff is pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in Labor Studies at Indiana University. Prior to joining CEW&T, Brandi worked at the Kelley School of Business for nearly four years. Before this, she worked in Human Resources and Recruiting for a publishing company. Brandi enjoys attending her boys’ (many) sporting activities from football to dodgeball and everything in between. She and her boys love taking weekend getaways. Her favorite vacationing will always be to the mountains in TN or cruising around the Caribbean.

Kristin RussellCommunications and Media Coordinator

Kristin Russell joined CEWiT in early 2019. She has a Bachelor’s of Arts in Media with a concentration in Media Science and a specialization in Media Research, along with a minor in American Studies. Before coming to CEW&T, she was a Creative Media Specialist at IU’s Career Development Center for two years. After that, she worked at IU Communications as a Social Media Intern. Upon returning from her semester abroad in Australia where she was studying Global Media and Historical Geography, she joined our team at CEW&T. Kristin has spent time in IU’s Institute for Communication Research studying media effects, and has also worked with the National Television and Violence Study coding content. During the 2017 summer, she was a Student Ambassador in the IU2U program in Beijing, Shanghai, and Seoul conducting workshops to aid first-year exchange students in their transition to Indiana University. Kristin has spent time volunteering at Bloomington’s Boys and Girls Club and Towradgi Primary School reading with primary school students, and at the IU Cinema as an usher. In her free time, Kristin enjoys being with friends and family, listening to music, writing, and being outside.
